FAQ

1) Callernizer isn't working!

There are a number of reasons why Callernizer isn't working. Please ensure that

  • You are NOT running a registered or non-expired trial version

  • Ensure that your registration code is entered correctly.

  • Keystroke Injection (also known as Input Simulation in newer models) is enabled

In the rare instance that the hangup isn't working, try increasing the hangup delay. If all else fails, please contact our support team using the Contact Form, stating your model and the problem

2) How do I enable Keystroke Injection/Input Simulation?

  • Go to the Main Screen

  • Select Options (the one that looks like a spanner)

  • Select Advanced Options

  • Select Applications

  • Highlight (not select) Callernizer

  • Click on the Menu Button

  • Select Edit Permission

  • Select Interactions

  • Ensure that Keystroke Injection/Input Simulation is set to Allow

3) What are the "Don't run ad hoc", "Run ad hoc", "Run until", "Stop Callernizer completely" mode?

Ad hoc mode means that you run Callernizer as and when you want!

  • Don't run ad hoc - Disable all the rules and settings, but block blacklisted numbers. This means that anyone except blacklisted numbers can contact you
  • Run ad hoc - This runs Callernizer according to the rules and settings you set indefinitely until you stop Callernizer
  • Run until - This runs Callernizer until the time and date you specify. This is useful so you won't need to remember to turn off Callernizer
  • Stop Callernizer Completely - This stops Callernizer completely. Blacklisted number will not be blocked. Callernizer Menu will not be available. Sleep mode will not run either.

4) What is the Callernizer Menu and how do I activate it?

  • Callernizer Menu enables you to run Callernizer from anywhere within the Blackberry
  • It tells you if Callernizer is running in ad hoc mode (not Sleep mode) and the number of calls Callernizer has blocked. For details on which calls were blocked, you need to check the phone logs
  • It is activated when you select any of the run mode selected above except "Stop Callernizer Completely"
  • Useful when you need to go for a meeting and just want to quickly start and run Callernizer for a short period

5) What are the various options in the Callernizer Menu?

  • Stop running - This stops Callernizer from running in the ad hoc mode (doesn't affect Sleep Mode)
  • Clear blocked calls count - Resets the number of calls block by Callernizer to 0
  • Run for 30, 60 or 120 minutes - Starts running Callernizer for 30, 60 or 120 minutes respectively.

6) What is Sleep Mode

  • Sleep Mode runs Callernizer everyday from the start time to the end time specified. If the start time is greater than the end time (Eg 11pm is the start time and 8am is the end time), Callernizer will run from 11pm to 8am everyday. This mode runs independently of the ad hoc mode.

7) What are the different settings "Allow Through", "Complete Block", "Urgency Detect", "Block+Sms", "Urgency Detect+Sms"

  • Allow Through - Calls will be allowed through in this setting, unless it is in the Black List
  • Complete Block - Calls will be blocked in this setting
  • Urgency Detect - Applies the Urgency Detect criteria to calls in this setting. Default Urgency Detect setting is 3 calls within 10 minutes
  • Block+Sms - Calls will be blocked and an Sms will be sent to the caller
  • UrgencyDetect+Sms - Applies the Urgency Detect criteria to calls in this setting and sends an Sms to the caller
(Note : Only one Sms will be sent each time Callernizer application is invoked. This is to reduce your Sms charges)

8) What are the different rules ie "White List Rule", "Contact List Rule", "Unknown Number Rule"

  • White List Rule - Applies the settings mentioned above to calls in the White List
  • Contact List Rule - Applies the settings mentioned above to calls in the Address Book or Contact List
  • Unknown Number Rule - Applies the settings mentioned above to calls which cannot be found in the Blacklist, Whitelist or Address Book. Calls with "ID Withheld" falls into this category

9) How do I set up a Blacklist/Whitelist?

There are two ways to set up the blacklist/whitelist, from the Phone Logs or from the Contacts/Address Book.

First, ensure that Callernizer is enabled and running in the background.

From the Phone Logs

  • Go to the phone logs of your phone, in some models, it can be as simple as pressing the Dial button

  • Highlight the number you wish to put in the Blacklist or Whitelist

  • Click on the Menu Button

  • Select the option to Add Blacklist/Whitelist respectively

From the Contact/Address Book

  • Go to the Contact or Address Book

  • Highlight the contact you wish to put in the Blacklist or Whitelist

  • Click on the Menu Button

  • Select the option to Add Blacklist/Whitelist respectively

From Callernizer Program

  • Click on the Menu
  • Select either the Blacklist Menu or Whitelist Menu
  • Go to the text box labeled "Number to add"
  • Use * behind the prefix to block or allow all numbers right up to the *. (Eg 1900* blocks all numbers starting 1900 such as 1900123456, 1900654321)
  • Click on the Menu button
  • Select "Add number to list"

10) How do I see the Blacklist/Whitelist and how do I remove a number from the Blacklist/Whitelist?

  • Go to Callernizer

  • Click the Menu Button

  • Click on Show Blacklist/Whitelist option

  • To remove the number in the Blacklist/Whitelist, Highlight the number you wish to remove
  • Click on the Menu Button
  • Click on Remove Number from List

11) How do I check my missed calls?

As Callernizer keeps changes to the user experience minimal, we do not have our own phone logs, though we keep. Secondly, the Blackberry phone logs are good enough for users to keep track of their past calls, hence calls that have been disconnected by Callernizer can be found in the PhoneLogs

12) What is UrgencyDetect?

UrgencyDetect is our patent pending technology which detects urgent calls based on your preference and allow urgent calls through. Ideally, this is used with the Contact List to enable only people you know to reach you when a call is urgent.

This eliminates the problem whereby family and friends will not be able to disturb you with unimportant calls and yet, will be able to contact you if a call is urgent.

For example, it would be annoying to have family and friends calling you for a chat if you are in the middle of an important meeting, yet if there is an emergency, you would want to be contacted. UrgencyDetect handles this by first determining if the call is urgent before allowing it through. If a family member calls you 3 times in 10 minutes, you can be sure that the is definately urgent. In this instance, UrgencyDetect will allow the call to come through the 4th time

13) What is Max Duration between calls?

The maximum duration between calls is used by UrgencyDetect to determine the span of time to count the number of calls. In the default instance, it is 10 minutes, thus, if the caller calls 4 times in 1 hour, UrgencyDetect will deem the call to be not urgent and it will not be allowed through. If the caller calls 4 times in 10 minutes, UrgencyDetect will allow the call through

14) What is Number of Calls within specified duration?

This is the number of times the caller must call within the Maximum Duration (eg 3 times in 10 minutes) to be deemed as urgent and allowed through

15) What is Sms message?

Sms Message allows you to set your own custom message to the caller. In the default instance, the custom message is set to inform the caller that you are busy and if the call is urgent to call you 3 more times and then they will be put through. This prevents the caller from accidentally calling you again when Callernizer hangs up the first time

16) What is Delay Before Hangup?

This allows you to specify the milliseconds you would like for the phone to ring before it disconnects the caller. The default setting is 1500 milliseconds, though you could set it lower (1000 milliseconds = 1 second).

17) What is Delay Before Hanging up Blacklist number?

This allows you to specify the milliseconds you would like for the phone to ring before it disconnects the blacklisted number. The default setting is 1000 millisecond, though you could set it lower. Some users have reported problems when setting it to 0. Do find the optimal number for yourself.

18) What is Keypad pressed duration?

This is for our support team to assist you in case of problems. Due to the different way different phones behave, some phones might require a longer duration,  though from past experience, 100 milliseconds is enough. The longer the keypad pressed duration, the longer the hang up takes.

19) How long is the trial version?

The trial version last for 15 days. It is fully functional for 15 days. It will even show Registered in the About screen during the 15 days

20) How do I check my registration code / I have forgotten my registration code?

  • Go to Callernizer

  • Click the Menu Button

  • Select About

  • Enter your registration code exactly as you received it (it is case sensitive and 8 characters long)

If you lost your registration code, take note of the Device Id in the About Screen and go to the Support Page and key in your Device Id.

Your registration code will be displayed if you have purchased the software. If it doesn't appear, please contact our support team stating your Device Id, date and time of purchase.
